Most often, support is needed when drilling poorly explored sections and constructing complex wells:
- exploration wells
- Horizontal and ERD wells
- Wells with abnormal high pore pressure
- Superdeep and HP/HT wells
- offshore drilling
Prior to drilling, geomechanical modeling of the geological environment along the trajectory of the planned well is carried out, the stability of the wellbore wall is calculated, and a risk map is drawn up.
Next, dependencies are determined, in accordance with which, according to the information obtained from the logging data while drilling (LWD) and from the mud logging station, the created model is verified and the prediction of the borehole wall stability (failure gradients, absorption and fracture, pore pressure) is updated. Based on the updated model, current events are assessed and the geological risks of drilling, potential changes in drilling and trip parameters, current and upcoming operations are determined.
Maintenance is carried out in specialized software that allows you to receive data from the drilling rig in streaming mode, update the model and visualize the input data and predicted parameters.
Drilling support can be carried out 24/7 or daily.
In the daily mode, updating the geomechanical model and calculating the stability of the wellbore wall is performed once a day. A daily report is sent with an analysis of the events that have occurred and recommendations for the next day.
In 24/7 mode, continuous round-the-clock monitoring of incoming data, online updating of the geomechanical model and calculation of the stability of the wellbore wall are carried out. When approaching intervals with increased geological risks, deviation of the observed technological and geomechanical parameters, prompt warning and recommendations are issued.
Support is provided by a team of specialists in various fields: geology, geomechanics, geophysics. A prerequisite is the participation of employees with extensive experience on the drilling rig, with a good knowledge of drilling technologies. Support engineers are in constant contact with the specialists responsible for drilling.

Geomechanical support provides an understanding of the processes occurring in the section during drilling, tripping, cementing. Allows drilling specialists to make decisions based on an accurate forecast, prevent contingencies, and ultimately achieve planned drilling dates or significantly reduce them. Usually the cost of maintenance pays off tens or hundreds of times.
