PetroGM performs calculations to estimate sand (solid phase) production in production wells based on geomechanical modeling. To accurately predict failures and safe production parameters, the stresses in the reservoir around the wellbore or perforation are calculated. Based on the obtained values, the depression at which the rock will begin to collapse is estimated.
As a result, the values of the critical pressure in the wellbore are obtained, at which production is safe and sand production does not occur.
For various production modes, the moments of the beginning of sanding and the total flow rates are calculated, which makes it possible to choose the optimal mode that gives the maximum flow rate.

The most accurate sand production prediction is made using the results of 4D modeling , which allows understanding reservoir behavior under depletion conditions and describes stress changes over time in the area of production wells.
Estimation of sand removal is carried out according to core studies on thick-walled cylindrical samples. Through the inner hole of the thick-walled cylinder, flushing fluid is pumped while increasing the longitudinal and transverse compression and measuring the axial strain. Fluid washed out of the sample at various pressures with rock particles is collected in flasks.
The data obtained during the experiment (pressure, axial deformation, mass of sand and its granulometric composition) are used to assess the pressure drawdown at which sand will begin to flow into the well. The particle size distribution determines the optimal size of the slotted holes in the column.
