Another relevant technology is the disposal of drilling mud into the reservoir, which involves hydraulic fracturing and the injection of one or another agent into the rock.
To determine the technological parameters of these procedures, it is necessary to understand the current state of the reservoir in the injection area: loss and fracturing gradients, reservoir pressure, as well as permeability and porosity. It is possible to calculate and consider the influence of these properties on the injection result only based on geomechanical modeling. At the same time, the most accurate result is obtained by 3 D/4 D-modeling , which takes into account changes in the properties of the reservoir in the lateral direction, as well as in time during the operation of the field.
To optimize the injection of water, gas or drilling mud into the reservoir, geomechanics will allow:
- Determine the coordinates of the injection well and the safe distances to other wells
- Choose suitable intervals for downloading
- Calculate the exact volume of injected agent
- Develop an optimal injection scenario (discharge pressure, flow rate)
- Avoid breakthrough into non-target reservoir
